STUDENT SUPPLY LIST 
FOR EGG TEMPERA ICON PAINTING WORKSHOP   

Know that the smallest container will last you forever – except for white and Indian Red. The pigments listed below I use often though we may not be using it during the workshop. As the class goes on, make a note of which pigments we use and then order them first if you wish to continue on your own.

DRY PIGMENTS FROM DANIEL SMITH  - they do not carry Cadmiums

GOLD LEAF 
Real:    Best patent Gold Leaf (#101-010-009 from Daniel Smith) Make sure it is “Patent”
Fake:  Mona Lisa Composite Gold Leaf (#530-310-001 from Daniel Smith) or any quality composite gold leaf at art stores

Gold adhesive -  small can Minwax, fast drying Polyurethane clear gloss (MUST be oil based) from any hardware or paint supply

I also noticed that they had French Ochre Sahara #40130 - that might be worth a try for the first skin color or Ochre Avana Greenish #40200 is a good color to use for the face and skin (first coat) - a bit more golden than greenish

BRUSHES 
The best brushes to use are round, sizes 6, 1, 3, or 4  Loew-Cornell makes a fine brush called mystique. Look in the watercolor brush section and find brushes that come to a fine point.  A flat brush is handy to have for painting the frame areas. You’ll also need a crummy brush for gold adhesive.  

VARNISH
 Please see Eleni as the varnish has changed – make sure it says Oil Based – water will ruin your icon. You can find this a quality hardware stores like Home Depot. Let 1st coat dry completely before second coat (see instructions on can - usually for 24-48 hours) or varnish will blister the paint.

wood stir sticks (plastic is too small)  or popsicle sticks to scoop out pigments from jar
Can also use tiny plastic ice cream sampler spoons
